Funnily enough, Will, the aligator is probably my favourite animal to draw too. Back in the years I was working for the art department at Walt Disney World, I'd buy myself an annual pass to nearby Gatorland. Weekends would often find me sketching these ugly yet strangely lovable beasts, either drawing them straight or cartooning them. I suppose that one of the main reasons I like drawing them so much is that, unlike most other zoo animals that move around frenetically, the gator will just lie there dormant for a long period of time, allowing for nice long studies. At some point while I'd be sketching, however, it would slide off the planking into the water, potentially bringing my drawing to a halt. Fortunately though, there would usually be another one nearby in a similar view for me to switch to.Yeah, and I like ol' seegar chompin' Albert Alligator from "Pogo" as well!
Fun, expressive drawings--the line work for the 2nd gator is beautiful!!!
These are gatorific!!!groan...sorry about that.Really nice drawings.
TIME WITH POGO IS NEVER MISSPENT!
Will!i just found your blog. i love the links to old cartoonists and your sketches are so great.such fun drawings of the 'ol gators! and there ain't nothing better than a mis-spent youth with Pogo. ;)keep up the great inspiring work.all the best, mike . . . p.s. also...very good to see you today at Disney. nice surprise. hope to see you around more.
I used to love to draw alligators when I was little. I think it was the cartoon eyes and the ridges on their noses. Maybe also the pointed hands, and the spikes on their back.
I hope you continue to inspire budding animators like myself in the future.I'm trying really hard to avoid an awkward fanboy moment.
awkwardness averted, michael. i'm still a fanboy myself.a.m. bush--i like your artwork!mike good to see you too. hope to see you again soon.thanks pete, paul, larry, thad & "willis" also...
thanks for visiting my blog! well your stuff is super great
Great beginning Will, want to see more! Just beautiful.
Hey, those dudes look great!
It's relatable: alot of youth (including me) will draw based on another artist's material in order to find their voice. If possible.I can't wait to see more.
