not on purpose tho--i have been reading the original Popeye comic strips and was going for a 30's comic strip look. i have never read very much E.C. Segar before but i am loving the new books (which are beautifully done). i've also been looking at Cliff Sterett's POLLY & HER PALS, which is one of the very best old time comics ever.
I also like your cowboy. It has a Kurtzman-esque vibe to it, as well as a dash of Henry Syverson, but it's also pure Will Finn. Two thumbs up.
