HEY ANIMATORS! If you've got roughly 70 minutes to kill and you enjoy studying pitch-perfect acting, hurry over to
hulu and watch Mickey Rooney starring in
THE COMEDIAN.
Here's my original post on this vintage TV one-shot starring Mickey Rooney as a cut-throat TV funnyman unable to resist bullying everyone in his orbit. My friend Rick Farmiloe and I have been mutual fans of this little-seen 1957 Rod Serling teleplay since it re-surfaced on PBS about 30 years ago and it has been an endless source of quotable gold ever since. If you can see past the creaks, blurry picture and tenuous plotline you too may become a fan. Nearly impossible to find on DVD, the invisible hand of the internet has stepped in to make it available to everybody. No excuses. All you have to do is watch a few new car ads, which is probably a lot less than the original live viewing audience had to put up with.
P.S. a couple new posts over at
SNELGROVE'S. Take your time...

Thanks for posting this Will. I remember you used to talk about this film a lot back when we were on HoTR. I just watched it and it was every bit as good as you said it was, better even. Man, Serling's script is so tight, the performances from EVERYONE are stellar. Thank you for letting us all know that this is available online!
Hi John glad you got a kick out of "Sammy Hogarth" and Co.
"Gettin' chilly in here Lester..!"
I'm a huge fan of Mr. Serling but I don't recall seeing this particular show. This lucky kid got to spend one weekday evening chatting with Rod Serling when he stopped in at the studio.
