Most only know his POGO stuff...but those numbers seem to be dwindling as well. It's so important to keep these cartoon pioneers in the spotlight as much as possible. They really were the BEST!!! Thanks Will! Keep those inspiring drawings coming!!!RFarmiloehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14706401053620571488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7128131605312127923.post-78787099938934036652007-06-22T09:28:00.000-07:002007-06-22T09:28:00.000-07:00Wow, these are really great. Does anyone know what brush and/or pen nib he used?Taschhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03612541956262168900noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7128131605312127923.post-54679621178847260922007-06-22T09:17:00.000-07:002007-06-22T09:17:00.000-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Max Wardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16301632532479439366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7128131605312127923.post-9920842839618102212007-06-21T23:55:00.000-07:002007-06-21T23:55:00.000-07:00I never get tired of looking at Kelly drawings. I'm stoked that Fantagraphics is putting out a hard-bound collection of the Pogo daily and Sunday strips , similar format to the Peanuts and Dennis the Menace volumes they've released recently.

Max Ward wrote:
"Never seen Walt Kelly draw people"

Max, see if you can locate the book "The Pogo Stepmother Goose" (check eBay from time to time) . Kelly's story in that volume entitled "The Town On the Edge of the End" is mostly human beans.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02162612139500138953noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7128131605312127923.post-25620439420342272422007-06-21T14:01:00.000-07:002007-06-21T14:01:00.000-07:00Never seen Walt Kelly draw people...they are great...Never seen Walt Kelly draw people...they are great, I might like them better than the Pogo characters....maybe..Max Wardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16301632532479439366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7128131605312127923.post-69527451193570278362007-06-21T09:44:00.000-07:002007-06-21T09:44:00.000-07:00Walt Kelly has the most amazing line quality. I love the bursh work in that book. It's looser than his Pogo work, but the drawing is so spot on and tight. For me, everything begins and ends with Kelly. Have you seen any of his non-Pogo comics work? It's interresting to see how his style evolved after he left Disney. Check out the "Our Gang" compilations that Fantagraphics is doing. Neat stuff!
Thanks for posting these!!!John S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03562963042584020477noreply@blogger.com
